This was the second collaboration project I had the privilege to be part of. Amy is a fantastic, quirky songwriter who at the time was doing a lot of work with loops. We started playing with the title track, “Slippery Minutes” that I slathered with massive reverbed guitar shoved way into the background, and one thing led to another.

This progressed over about a year, and although I really like the songs as I listen back to these I can’t help feeling like I didn’t quite hit the nail on the head sometimes. Some are very odd and experimental, and I think I should have gone much more in that direction with all the music I wrote for her songs. At the time I was a little obsessed with the idea that if something seemed like the obvious way to go, therefore I had to go in a different creative direction. That and I was starting to get my pop-rock head back and there were a few songs where I went a little “crunchy guitar” when it probably wasn’t the best decision. Also, my mixing/mastering chops were a little more inadequate than I realized. I was kinda cocky in that respect in those days, but every process is a learning one, right?

STILL. Amy is one of the coolest people I know, and she was really happy with the resulting album, so what do I know. The songs that she penned were spooky and weird and wonderful, and I’m incredibly thrilled that I got to work with her on it.

I’m probably due for another adventure like this where I build on someone else’s work, I really do enjoy it.

Here are a few tracks from the album, ones that I really dig and show off the range of wonderful spooky poppy weirdness that it was.
