Ships and Tide

kgmeloy – April 7, 2020 – Day 14, a “Cincinnati Quarantunes” song

in the sky i see a plane
a bird by any other name
and tho on fire it stays in flight
blind but in the plainest sight

men on mountains tossing boulders
on the ground it’s getting old
but i’m
watching them tumble down

down below i feel the rain
wash away all that i’ve gained
and though it tests what i believe
don’t want the gift i might receive

men on mountains launching rockets
sleight of hand deep in my pocket
but i’m
watching them tumble down

though i’m still standing
the weight of the world in my heart
ships and tide all rise as one
underneath the setting sun

want to read a different chapter
need a happy ever after

though i’m still standing
the weight of the world in my heart
and i’m still hoping
to see the end before it falls apart
