Robber – (1979, Bram Tchaikovsky)

I couldn’t do this collection without a little Bram. I’d forgotten how much this guy influenced a lot of my style, from the weird structure to the dead stop at the end (now that I think about this, a lot of this stuff has those dead stops, something I do almost by reflex action on about 90% of my tunes. How odd…). Not to mention, Bram played a gorgeous Gibson RD – an axe I coveted back then, used to swoon over in Santucci’s Music in Ottawa, Il around that same year when I was taking guitar lessons. The RD was waaaay out of my price range, but as the world provides, a dear friend of mine decided to sell his a few years ago and I snagged it without hesitation. And yes, I absolutely used it on this recording. 🙂

Robber – 1979, Bram Tchaikovsky
written by Bram Tchaikovsky

he’s a robber
take your heart
tear it apart
robber
he’s a robber
take your soul
leave you a hole
robber

they offer you money
to take your life away from you
you couldn’t resist them
money has a way of getting through
they search your feelings
and it takes away your pride
to find that they tricked you
and continually lied

that well meaning face
so come around to my place
and you find you feel all in
to the common friend
of a robber

he’s a robber
take your heart
tear it apart
robber
he’s a robber
take your soul
leave you a hole
robber

they relieve you
of your option if you sign
you can run away
but boy they don’t let you resign
it’s never their problem
when you’re out of luck
you might as well face it
all these people suck

it’s only your name
it won’t be the same
you think it’s a lark
but that is the mark
of a robber

he’s a robber
